Petrochemical
Petrochemicals are the chemical products obtained from petroleum by refining. Some chemical compounds made from petroleum are also obtained from other fossil fuels, such as coal or natural gas, or renewable sources such as maize, palm fruit or sugar cane.
Challenges
- Dust & Streamers: Angel hair, fines, and dust can adversely impact any type of plastics production—from resin manufacturing itself to molding and other processes.
- Material Degradation: The major chemical changes are oxidation and chain scission, leading to a reduction in the molecular weight and degree of polymerization of the polymer. (due to excessive heat or shear forces during transport of mechanical handling)
- Static Electricity: This static charge can (and does) foul processes by causing irregular feeding or separation of blends. Parts that have static charges can attract dust and in extreme situations, can cause explosion
Solutions
- Reduce conveying velocity / Deduster: High conveying velocity is the most common cause of dust and streamers. Reduce design velocity with deduster unit will reduce dust & streamers.
- Control temperature & conveying velocity: Precise temperature and velocity controls to maintain material integrity.
- Apply anti-static features & grounding: This can mitigate static charge related issues.
